How to Install a Fiber Demarcation Enclosure

Step-by-step: installing the enclosure

  1. Choose the location. Mount near the drop’s point of entry, at a serviceable height, away from downspouts, meters, and sprinkler spray. For aerial drops, pole-mount on the field side; for buried drops, wall-mount above grade at the entry point.
  2. Mount the base. Fix the enclosure base to the wall through the mounting points, or strap it to the pole. Confirm it sits flush and level so the cover seals correctly.
  3. Route the OSP drop. Bring the drop through an entry grommet — 506F grommets accept up to 1-inch conduit, and ½″ grommet kits mate with the RTK riser tube kit for a finished riser. Rear knockouts provide an alternate entry for fiber mini-duct. Keep separate entry points for the OSP drop and the customer fiber.
  4. Store the slack. Coil excess drop around the slack management features. The corner slack retention is designed to hold “springy” OSP drop cable and buffer tubes captive at a controlled bend radius — never force a tighter coil to make cable fit [V1].
  5. Terminate. Land the drop connector on the adapter plate (SC or LC per configuration), or fusion-splice using the 2-splice capacity of the 4-port plate. Hardened-connector drops mate at the entry-port or internal-bracket adapter provision. Clean and inspect every connector before mating.
  6. Strain-relieve and secure. Tie the cables down at the internal tie-down features, fit the optional cable entry clamp for added retention, and bond the ground stud where local practice requires it [V1]. Seat the hinged cover and close it with the 3/8″ hex head bolt; add a security tie-wrap or tag if the location calls for it.
